The Scary Facts About Electric Vehicles

by Jeffrey J. Kroll

While electric cars look cool, save gas, and have a number of significant environmental advantages, there are some scary details to be concerned about.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, electric cars are almost 40 percent more likely to collide with pedestrians than cars with engines. Why? At lower speeds, in a typical motor vehicle, the engine is responsible for notifying pedestrians of an oncoming or approaching vehicle. Such is not the case with electric vehicles. Thus, creating a new silent killer: the electric vehicle. Not surprisingly, the Governor’s Highway Safety Association has released data showing that the deaths in pedestrian and bicycle accidents are at the highest they’ve been in 40 years. This is not a statewide problem; it’s a nationwide problem. Why? Undoubtedly, the increase of silent electric vehicles on roadways has contributed to this catastrophe.
